Below is a quote from Philip Ridley about working with Jim Sturgess on two songs for the soundtrack:
And then something happened that I hadn’t been expecting. Jim Sturgess, who plays Jamie in the film, heard some of the songs and loved them. He wondered if, perhaps, it would be right for him to sing a couple. To be honest, Jim and I had discussed this possibility much earlier (Jim’s talents are boundless. As well as being one of the greatest actors around, he is also a great singer…not to mention song writer, poet – the list goes on!). Initially, we had both agreed it probably wouldn’t be right. But as the film progressed, and the exploration of Jamie’s mind in the film become ever more obsessive…well, it just seemed to make total sense for Jim to perform the two songs most pertinent to Jamie’s state of mind: the theme music, Heartless, and Another Me. Jim’s interpretation of these songs is one of the highlights of my whole Heartless journey. And watching him perform them live, as he did at the film’s premiere at the wonderful Frightfest Film Festival, is a shining gem of a memory that will stay with me all my life.

On August 31 Jim Sturgess performed two songs from his new film, Heartless. We are pleased to share the lyrics from the film’s title song written by Director Philip Ridley.
HEARTLESS
When I woke up this morning the trees didn’t work
bird song had turned to gunfire and the stars were in the dirt
The snow feels like a heatwave,
The sunshine feels like rain.
If a feather touches my skin, it causes me pain
Come back, come back
And make the world work again.
Come back and put an end to all this mess,
Come back and prove the world’s not heartless.
Come back and prove the world’s not heartless.
