Jim Sturgess was spotted today at the Cannes Film Festival accompanying Doona Bae, his former co-star from Cloud Atlas, to the premiere of her latest film A Girl at My Door. The Korean police drama was selected by Cannes to screen in the Un Certain Regard competition. Although Jim doesn’t have a film screening at the festival this year, two of his movies which are now in post production, Kidnapping Freddy Heineken and Eliza Graves, are both being screened at the Cannes Film Market as they seek international distribution.

Cloud Atlas releases tomorrow in the U.S. on DVD, Blu-ray (Combo Pack) and Digital Download, and in the UK on July 1st. Directed by Lana Wachowski, Andy Wachowski and Tom Tykwer and featuring a stellar cast which includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Jim Broadbent, Doona Bae, Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, and Susan Sarandon, the film is the perfect combination of big-budget effects and creative storytelling.
Cloud Atlas reveals something new with each viewing and true fans will enjoy adding the film to their personal collection. The film’s unconventional structure is precisely what allows it to create meaning with connections, both visual and aural, which are so immense in scope that they can only be absorbed entirely after multiple viewings. Watch the film’s DVD/Blu-Ray trailer below and purchase the film in the JSO Store (via Amazon US) here and pre-order it (via Amazon UK - releases July 1) here. It is also available through Movies On Demand. Check your local on-demand channel listings.
Hi Def Digest offers this review of the release and the special features which are included:
A daring attempt to explore the human condition in six vastly different epochs, ‘Cloud Atlas’ is an all-encompassing and sprawling cinematic examination of the things which inspire and motivate us as a species. Adapted from the sweeping David Mitchell novel, the multi-genre film is a dazzling piece of entertainment that manages to stay focused and delivers a satisfying conclusion. It debuts on Blu-ray with reference-quality video and an excellent audio presentation. Supplements aren’t very extensive, but they’re amusing and surprisingly insightful nonetheless, making the overall package recommended for fans and a strong rental for others.
Below is a list of the special features included on the Blu-Ray Combo pack:
Everything is Connected (HD, 8 min) — A mix of BTS footage and clips intertwined with interviews on how each story is entwined.
The Impossible Adaptation (HD, 9 min) — As the title implies, the Wachowskis, Tom Tykwer and author David Mitchell talk about the novel’s complex plot and the challenge of adapting it into film.
The Essence of Acting (HD, 7 min) — Essentially several minutes praising the performances and playing various characters.
Spaceships, Slaves & Sextets (HD, 8 min) — An amusing discussion on how the interlocking stories blend into one another with some rather insightful thoughts about the overarching plot.
The Bold Science Fiction of Cloud Atlas (HD, 7 min) — More interviews with cast & crew talking about the film’s sci-fi elements and the various production touches connecting each story.
Eternal Recurrence: Love, Life, and Longing (HD, 8 min) — With more BTS footage, interviews focus on the film’s romance elements and the clever design touches sprinkled throughout.

We don’t normally post fan-made videos on our front page, but this Cloud Atlas video featuring Jim Sturgess as Hae-Joo Chang and Doona Bae as Sonmi-451, by GreysArwen on YouTube, is exquisite and very well done. Enjoy!
Thanks to Warner Bros Online, in anticipation of the DVD/Blu-ray release of Cloud Atlas on May 14, we have two new video clips, from the film featuring Jim Sturgess and Doona Bae. In the first one titled “The Truck,” Sonmi-451 learns just who Hae Joo Chang is, and why he’s fighting so hard to keep her alive and safe.
Titled, “Stop Them,” in this scene, Hae Joo Chang and Sonmi-451 are being pursued by evil forces in a very effects heavy, CGI scene.
JSO was alerted today to this incredibly brilliant, clever, and hilarious, Cloud Atlas video review from movie fan, Joshua Voiles on You Tube, who created this review and added a few creative surprises of his own. Jim Sturgess was so impressed, that even he tweeted the link for the video here. It’s not for everyone, but we believe you will have a reaction one way or another, after you watch. ENJOY!
In anticipation of the release of Cloud Atlas in France on May 1, MonsieurHollywood has released a new video interview with Jim Sturgess and Doona Bae. In it, they talk about how Cloud Atlas has made them think differently about life.
Thanks to co-webmistress Michelle, we found this lovely video featuring Jim Sturgess and Doona Bae from the Cloud Atlas press conference in Korea last month. Unfortunately, we’re unable to translate it’s source. In it, Jim discusses his character Hae-Joo, gives Doona a ‘high ten,’ talks about drinking Soju for the first time, dabbles at speaking Korean, and is just all around adorable. Good job Jim, good job.
