The video is interspersed with never-before-seen clips featuring Jim Sturgess as Jamie Morgan. If you look closely you will see JSOnline Co-Webmistress Liz at 2:11 giving her personal reaction to the film, calling Heartless, “FABULOUS!!! BRILLIANT!!!” Forum member djsmokingjam is also featured at 1:34 in the video saying, “I think it’s the best British horror film in the last 20 years, without a doubt.”

This fiercely imaginative ‘urban fairy tale’ from multitalented East End fabulist Philip Ridley, creator of ‘The Reflecting Skin’ and ‘The Passion of Darkly Noon’, juxtaposes familiar Bethnal Green settings, fairy tales, disturbing violence and bleak, surreal humour. Jamie (Jim Sturgess), a melancholy 25-year-old photographer with a heart-shaped port-wine birthmark on his face, starts to believe that the masked ‘hoodies’ prowling the streets are actual demons.

‘HEARTLESS’ TRAILER
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010The long-awaited trailer for Philip Ridley’s psychological fantasy-horror thriller, Heartless, starring Jim Sturgess is now available on Yahoo! Movies UK and our very own YouTube channel. The film is slated for release on May 21 in the UK, with a groundbreaking multi-platform release strategy being launched on May 24. Incidentally, the trailer background music is an original song by Mickey O’Brien and Paul Stoney.
‘HEARTLESS’ UK RELEASE DATE
Friday, January 29th, 2010ScreenDaily.com has just announced the official UK release date for Heartless starring Jim Sturgess. UK distributor Lionsgate will simultaneously release Philip Ridley’s psychological thriller on DVD, blu-ray, video on demand (VOD) and download on May 24, three days after its theatrical release on May 21. This is the first time a film has been scheduled for release in the U.K. on the same date in multiple formats. Further news on a U.S. release date is expected soon.
Also making their debut today are the Official Heartless Movie Website and Official Heartless Facebook Page. Both sites include dozens of new Heartless production stills and behind-the-scene images featuring Jim Sturgess. All of these new images can also be seen in the JSO Image Gallery HERE.

The film will now go on to Sitges 2010 where it will be in the running for the Golden Melies Award. Congratulations to Jim and everyone involved in this amazing new film!

Philip Ridley’s Heartless stood out among the competition for its deft blending of fantasy and reality, its assured handling of a great many disparate genre elements – horror, urban drama, comedy and more besides – and the way it presented these familiar elements in a way that seemed both new and vital. It is an earnest film, one that bravely wears its heart on its sleeve throughout key plot points and character development, where in the hands of a different director and cast the emotional impact of this material could very easily have fallen flat. Visually captivating, wonderfully scripted and acted with a tremendous lead performance from Jim Sturgess, whether taken purely as entertainment or as an artistic statement it succeeds masterfully in every respect and for this reason it is a pleasure to award Heartless the 2009 Leeds International Film Festival Méliès.

Silver screen make-up usually transforms men into warriors, pirates or magical characters. But JIM STURGESS had to get used to a very real-looking birthmark for his new flick Heartless.
In our exclusive poster, the heart-shaped blemish comes alive like fire as it covers the left side of his face. The film follows a young guy whose world is dominated by gang culture and random violence in East London. But soon he meets someone who tells him violence is far from random and there is a reason for everything. The legendary TIMOTHY SPALL and BAFTA-winner NOEL CLARKE also star in the movie.
