Things just keep getting better and better in the Heartless world!

Folks are still posting the trailer in blogs, but not much worth reading out there. I'm taking myself off duty. I hope you enjoyed reading some of them. Horror fans certainly are passionate about their genre. Hats off to them. Hope they all turn out to see the film.

Now to learn that we will soon have more commercially available Jim music! How exciting :)

I'm still not sure if this plan by Lionsgate to release Heartless in multiple formats at once will work, but as I've said before, it's very cool that Heartless is a ground breaker in distribution for the ever changing film industry. And no doubt this will bring a lot of publicity to Heartless for this very reason. [/color] :geek:

I'm also not sure how effective this Lionsgate plan is or if it is good thing for the film..Probably it's only effective if it creates real buzz? I don’t know..But I also agree with you.I'm sure this brings a lot of publicity to Heartless, which is good thing :)

and movie websites. As a result it's really taken off and is the most viewed of all the trailers on YT with over 6,000 views in little over 24 hours. Sooooo I'm really pleased that our website has helped to promote the film, and hence Jim. :) :) :)

So glad to hear the trailer got many views in such a short period of time :D Thanks for all your efforts,FG! Let’s the HEARTLESS promotion begin!

(I posted Heartless trailer on the Awards daily forum.Unfortunately people at that forum don’t know Jim well though...)

I've been hoping we'd get some word on how the BFI went last night.....here's a review I found posted on someone's blog. No word on the Q&A with Ridley though:

http://specialeggmonkey.blogspot.com/20 ... tless.html

Went to see 'Heartless' at the BFI, as previously recommended in an older post. The film was a dark mess of magical suffering, exploring the theme of 'random violence in the 21st century' as the demon of our age. Jim Sturgess shone as the troubled 25-year-old 'Jamie', a young photographer with a heart-shaped birthmark across his face, who begins to battle with visions of lizardesque hooded demons in the urban labyrinth of East London. The plot gets more tangled between myth, imagination and reality, as it twists through the slum side-winding streets off Cambridge Heath Road. There is some beautiful night imagery in the film, and this was Ridley's first venture into the world of HD.

There was one moment where Tia, a love interest of Jamie's, is running down the stairs. He says 'my father always said you only regret the things you don't do, so don't go away'. This means if she doesn't go away, she will regret it. I wondered if this was an error, or a very clever clue to what is to come.

At points the editing pace is jumpy, particularly in the opening sequences. Occasionally something doesn't quite ring true in the relationships between the brothers, and lines of dialogue feel forced, or over-sincere. At other times, the border between nostalgic and downright cheesy becomes impossibly blurred, but it still rendered me teary-eyed on three occasions and uses myth and the absurd to explore the torment and terror of a haunted mind.

Jim Sturgess also performs one of the tracks in the film, and is in Tragic Toys with his girlfriend. I look forward to Moonfleece, which is the next theatrical offering from Philip Ridley.

*******************************

Just found this on THE PLAYLIST which talks about the HEARTLESS script:

http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2010/02 ... l-hit.html

We've read Ridley's script, and are big fans - it's fiercely original, very dark, and should prove a strong showcase for Sturgess, as well as the excellent supporting cast......Word from early screenings has been very strong, and this trailer certainly suggests why, with strong visuals rare in British genre pictures, and what looks to be an excellent feel for its location (this writer's own neck of the woods, and rarely depicted outside gangster cliches on film). There's no word on a US release, but it's out in the UK on May 21st, and will hit DVD and on-demand the following Monday -- a perplexing move for something that appears to have genuine potential to be a crossover hit. [FG's NOTE: I personally agree!!!]

Found a very informative article on the Heartless distribution plan...

Quote:
As part of this innovative release strategy Lionsgate UK has received Lottery funding from the UK Film Council‘s Digital Innovation in Distribution strand. With this grant Lionsgate UK are planning a groundbreaking interactive campaign with Facebook that will allow greater synergy between fans, social media and the film’s official website through advertising, competitions and user generated content.

The central theme to this activity is in keeping with the tone of the movie – demons and the dark side to urban life. Facebook users and film fans will be asked to capture their own versions of the demons within their city through photography and/or artwork and upload them to the official website or the Facebook fan page with an incentive to win. Fans of the film will be able to view and vote on their favourite content on both sites, as well as having the cast and crew involved in the judging process. The advertising strand to this campaign takes the form of a highly engaging “voting ad” which will allow the user to engage with the themes of the film and click through to further unique content on both the fan page and official website.

A couple of reviews for all of you....this will be tricky posting reviews.

Liz will glance them over for spoilers, and if I warn you, don't blame me if you can't maintain control and read the link anyway!!! I will include any Jim comments here on the board that I can, and send you off with a link for the rest.

We're still only finding blog reviews from special showings, so don't let them upset you or anything....

Quote:
The idea of the big city, especially during these 'uncertain times', as masking something far more disturbing is certainly an interesting premise (Hellraiser meets The Matrix, if you will) and combined with the 'hoodie horror' motif that worked to grim and upsetting effect in Eden Lake (less so in the rather silly and obvious portrayal of 'yoofs' in Harry Brown), Philip Ridley's film certainly has a rich backdrop to set the action. Moreover, while Heartless explores familiar genre ideas as madness, guilt, and society's ills incarnate, there is certainly enough going on to keep it interesting so as not to leave it feeling stale (no more creepy kids, wise beyond their years, though - almost as bad and as pointless as bleeding psychics).

The performances are fine, with Sturgess a believable lead, plus sound support from Noel Clarke, Clémence Poésy, and Timothy Spall on cameo duties, and it often looks the business, with some equally horrific and beautiful moments.....

On this one, avoid the paragraph starting with the word 'Heartless......'
Quote:
Philip Ridley is gradually carving out a niche for offbeat, original and flawed dark fantasy. His previous works, The Reflecting Skin and The Passion of Darkly Noon, used horror to explore themes of incest, madness and religion, and Heartless is another mix of horrific fantasy and equally horrific reality.

Like Eden Lake and Harry Brown, Heartless explores fears about a broken society – feral youths, random acts of violence, urban degradation. As crime rates in East London spiral out of control, Jamie (an impressive pain-etched performance from Sturgess) is touched by tragedy and makes a shocking discovery: the hoodies that stalk the streets are actually demons…

The highlight of Heartless is the demons themselves. With their ugly monstrous mugs (created by subtle FX work from Framestore) and a tendency to emit horrific screeching sounds, the creatures are likely to give even David Cameron second thoughts about hugging a hoodie.

Just posted on the frontpage of JSOnline: http://jimsturgessonline.com/?p=3071

From Jamie Morgan’s Facebook we have some new “one-sheet” posters for Heartless.

These one-sheet adverts are typically 27″ x 40″ posters which are either assembled into one large billboard made of multiple sheets, or are used as single posters to advertise a film. You can see all the Heartless artwork and posters in our gallery here: http://jimsturgessonline.com/images/thu ... p?album=60
